NCIMB provides a comprehensive range of commercial microbiology services to diverse sectors within industry since 1983. NICMB’s services are all founded on their heritage of managing, understanding and exploiting bacteria for the commercial benefit of their customers. These services range from culture maintenance and preservation through microbiological and chemical identification and analysis, to the support of novel discovery research. They also pioneer cutting-edge multi-party microbiology R&D collaborations.

About NCTC
The National Collection of Type Cultures (NCTC) supplies reference bacterial cultures of medical, scientific and veterinary importance world-wide to support academic, health, food and veterinary institutions. Founded in 1920, NCTC is the longest-established collection in the world offering a bacterial culture supply service. It is recognized internationally, serving as a European Resource Centre for Plasmids and a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Microbial Resource Centre (MIRCEN). The collection (which is certified to BS EN ISO 9001:2000) comprises over 5000 bacterial cultures, together with over 100 mycoplasmas and more than 500 plasmids, host strains, bacteriophages and transposons.

NCTC is one of the four culture collections that constitute the Health Protection Agency Culture Collections (HPA Culture Collections). Situated at the Health Protection Agency's Centre for Infections at Colindale (formerly Central Public Health Laboratory), NCTC has ready access to the wide-ranging expertise of an internationally-renowned body of specialists in clinical and environmental microbiology. These experts check each new batch produced by NCTC, ensuring quality control second to none.

About NCPF
The National Collection of Pathogenic Fungi (NCPF) is the United Kingdom's only culture collection specializing in fungi pathogenic to humans and animals. Since its inception at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1946 the NCPF has been an integral part of the Mycology Reference Laboratory which means that the expertise is available on site for strain authentication. At present the collection holds over 4,000 fungal strains, many examples of which are available for sale and distribution. This includes dermatophytes and related organisms from the UK and abroad from human and animal infections including many original type strains, mould strains from sub-cutaneous and deep-seated human and animal infection, pathogenic yeast strains and strains of dimorphic fungal pathogens.

NCPF is located at the Mycology Reference Laboratory, Bristol, which is part of the Specialist and Reference Microbiology Division of the Centre for Infections, Health Protection Agency, UK. Furthermore, NCPF is one of the four collections which constitute the Health Protection Agency Culture Collections (HPA Culture Collections).
